How to Perform FeatherBlend with the Sparx Sharpener 3Updated 3 hours ago

FeatherBlend is a sharpening feature available through the Sparx Hockey mobile app exclusively for the Sparx Sharpener 3.

FeatherBlend can be performed  on any hockey skate/blade where the skater seeks to have a focused removal of material on either the toe or heel area of the skate blade.

Focused removal of material would alleviate any non-smooth transition area or blunt blade shape (more common in older manufactured skate blades) of a skate blade.

The FeatherBlend Kit includes:

o   FeatherBlend Riser

o   Flat Grinding Ring

Start FeatherBlend in the Sparx Hockey App

  1. In order to FeatherBlend, you MUST use the Sparx Hockey App
  2. Open the Sparx Hockey mobile app and connect to your Sparx Sharpener
  3. Select the HOME tab (far left) from the bottom main navigation banner.
  4. Select FeatherBlend.
  5.  Follow the detailed FeatherBlend Instructions displayed in the app

Always follow these requirements when performing FeatherBlend:

  • FeatherBlend is only compatible with the Sparx Sharpener 3.
  • The latest Sharpener firmware and latest version of the Sparx Hockey mobile app are required.
  • A FeatherBlend Riser is required
  • Only use the FeatherBlend Riser during FeatherBlend. Remove all other risers, Blade Lifts, and Goalie Risers before beginning.
  • A Flat Grinding Ring is recommended for the fastest process and best results. Other Grinding Rings can be used.
  • Set the Grinding Ring height to 6 when instructed during FeatherBlend setup.
  • Do not adjust the Grinding Ring Height Adjustment Knob while positioning the Grinding Ring over the smoothing region.
  • Position the Grinding Ring in the center of the area you want to smooth.
  • Position the skate with the toe facing left.
  • Center the skate blade left-to-right between the clamp jaws.
  • Close the left Slot Cover, but leave the right Slot Cover open during FeatherBlend.
  • Complete the same number of FeatherBlend passes on both skate blades.
  • Never use FeatherBlend on goalie skates or figure skates.
  • After FeatherBlend, sharpen normally with your preferred Radius or FIRE Grinding Ring to complete the sharpening process.
