Understanding Radius of Hollow
Choosing the right hollow depends on your preferences: do you want more bite or more glide? The most common radius of hollow is 1/2”, which you’ll find in most retail settings. Here are our recommendations based on different players:
- For Children/Young Players: We recommend a 1/2" Radius Ring for players with less body weight.
- For Goalies: We suggest a 3/8" to 1/2" Radius Ring, depending on how much bite you want (smaller radius = more bite).
- For Adult Players: Our most popular ring is the 1/2" Radius Ring, but advanced players may prefer a 5/8" Radius Ring for more glide.
What Are Grinding Rings?
At the heart of the Sparx Sharpener is the Sparx Grinding Ring. These rings create the hollow in your skate blade, which determines the level of grip or glide your blade has on the ice. Whether you’re looking for extreme grip for tight turns or extra glide to beat opponents to the puck, our 16 different Grinding Ring options have you covered.
General Info:
- The smaller the radius, the more grip you’ll have.
- Larger radius provide more glide.
- Rings range from 1/4" up to 1 3/4" in size.
